The genius thing about the Kindle 3 is that it is almost exactly the same as reading a book

The Kindle 3 is selling like proverbial hot cakes. Amazon.com is finding it hard keeping up with orders this holiday season. Many of my friends already have one and swear by their Kindle 3 that they are never going back to buying books. So what is the big deal about the Kindle 3?

The Kindle 3 is one of several eBook readers on the market. It is also known as a wireless reading device. It is 7.5 inches in height, 4.8 inches in width and only 0.3 inches in thickness. It weighs just 8.7 ounces. I can fit it in my pocket or in my bag. It has become as irreplaceable to me as my mobile phone.

The genius thing about the Kindle 3 is that it is almost exactly the same as reading a book. The display has been improved since the Kindle 2 and now with E Ink Pearl technology the experience of reading the Kindle 3 is excellent. The fonts are crisp and clear and the background looks like paper. It is simple to use and none of the pleasure of reading is lost because it is through a digital format.

When you buy the Kindle 3 you have the choice of buying a unit with just Wi-Fi or with Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity. I would recommend spending a few extra dollars and buying the unit with Wi-Fi and 3G because the Wi-Fi only works where there is a free Wi-Fi hotspot whereas the 3G works nearly everywhere. Both are free ways to connect to the internet. There are no connection fees or monthly charges. You simply connect to the internet, choose a book and it gets downloaded to your Kindle reading device in just a couple of minutes.

What I love about this system is that there are 1.8 million free, out of copyright books to choose from. All the classics such as Zola, Dickens, Austin, Dostoyevsky, Tolstoy, Dumas and Hardy are absolutely free. No more hunting around thrift shops and second hand book shops for me. The Kindle 3 can hold an incredible 3,500 books and if you ever reach that limit you can simply store the superfluity on a hard drive.

New titles cost about $10. Most of the best sellers are available. The Kindle catalog of titles far exceeds other eBook readers and for this reason alone makes it a superior electronic reading device.

So if you love reading and you want a big library of books without the clutter, then buy a Kindle 3.
