We have all seen the t-shirts! Cute, innocent panda’s, wise eyed owls and sad, soft polar bears. Their gaze penetrates your heart and you cannot fathom the thought of these animals endangered. The sentiment is all for a good and noble cause and those animals deserve this attention. But what of those endangered animals that aren’t so cute or fluffy? What about the freaky weird animals that need our help? It’s time to put them on a t-shirt! Okay, maybe that is a bit ambitious but we can at least start by mentioning them in an article.

Lesbian lizards!! Did I get your attention? The scientific world refers to them rather as asexual. This lizard is found in South Vietnam and only females exist! They are able to reproduce perfect clones without a male counterpart. It is found that 2 female lizards that “act out” the mating process are able to successfully produce more offspring than those who do not.

Another animal on the brink of extinction is the “Olm”. The Olm is a blind amphibian that lives his entire life in the water. Its nickname, “the human fish” is due to the color of his skin. It reminded the locals of the skin of Caucasians. He is found in Italy, Croatia, and Herzegovenia and can live up to 100 years old. One of the most amazing facts about this creature is his ability to go 10 years at a time without eating!

The last on my list of freaky weird animals is the “Purple Frog”. Its name is straight forward and revealing. This frog is absolutely purple. The Purple Frog was undiscovered until 2003. Even after the insistence of the locals in western India the scientific community was skeptical of its existence. This frog had stayed elusive for so long by living 13 feet under ground. It only surfaces for air and mating for 2 weeks during the monsoon season. It is nicknamed “pig nose” for its stubby shaped face.

Hopefully we have drawn some attention to these creatures and all the animals endangered that need your help too. And who knows, maybe a new clothing line has been inspired!
