You want to be a great golfer? You just want to take money from your buddies every weekend in your local game? Want to shave strokes off your game? This article is going to help you do all of it, and I’m not going to talk about your actual swing even one time.
1. They are Thinking About Golf A Lot
Talk to anyone that’s really good at golf about golf and they are instantly engaged in the conversation. It could be about the plaid golf pants Ian Poulter wore at last weeks event of the propensity for people to lip out those three foot putts only when they have something on the line to lose. Great golfers are always thinking about golf, and that’s good, because it allows one to think about actually playing golf before stepping onto that first tee box.
2. They Have Short Memories on the Course
I have a buddy that I like to play golf with. He’s a good player, but I beat him all the time. See, he’s got a short temper, and he never lets any bad shot go. When I beat him the worst is when the bad shot or the bad break happens early in the round. I’ve played with him before where he was still talking about a shot on 15 that he hit on 2!
The sooner you come to realize that golf is a game of mistakes, of breaks, and of playing on natural surfaces, the sooner your golf game will get better. Sometimes your ball is going to land in a divot. Sometimes you’re going to push one right. Sometimes the ball is going to lip out. The sooner you can let that go and move on to the next shot, giving it the focus it deserves, the better.
3. When They are Playing Golf, they are Concentrating on Golf
Golf is a game of concentration. If you want to be good, when you’re on the course, you need to be thinking about that next shot. It isn’t going to work to, as you are walking up the green, check out the super tight women’s golf pants the lady at the clubhouse or in the cart is wearing – that’s not good for your game. Stop worrying about the ladies, the drink cart, and anything else outside of golf and concentrate.
Work on these three aspects of your game and I guarantee you’ll be on your way to greatness.
