The year was 1964 when an Austrian American designer Rudi Gerneich thought about spicing up swimsuits a little. Prior to that, the swimsuits were very monotonous. He came up with a single piece swimsuit, as opposed to the traditional two-piece. He named his invention ‘Monokini’. In the beginning, these suits were not accepted by everyone.
