Owning a backyard swimming pool constitutes a fabulous way in which to have fun and relax over the summer. However, individuals with swimming pools on their property need to ensure that they regularly maintain them in the correct fashion in order to prevent them from becoming damaged and to ensure the water in the pool remains safe to swim in.

In order to properly maintain your swimming pool, you first need to sanitize the water with the use of a stabilized chlorine treatment. Chlorine treatments come in both sticks and tablets. They are added to the distribution container housed next to the filter system and pump. Chlorine provides protection against microorganisms in the water. However, it is important to control the amount of chlorine added to the water as too much chlorine can be detrimental to your health. For this reason, it is important to follow the instructions provided with the chlorine treatment.

To inhibit the growth of algae in the pool, pool owners should periodically add algae preventative treatments to their waters. Algae not only looks unseemly but it also causes the water to become a danger to your health. Algae preventative treatments usually take the form of a liquid, and they are poured directly into the water in the proximity of the skimmer.

Every now and again, it is necessary to shock the pool water to further inhibit the growth of algae and to eliminate any organic compounds found in the water. These organic compounds can cause irritation to swimmers and they can prevent chlorine from effectively sanitizing the water. In order to shock a pool, extra chlorine is added to the water and left to work. This will eliminate the organic compounds.

Although the majority of pool maintenance tasks can be conducted by the pool owner, many individuals choose to hire a professional to maintain the pool on their behalf. A professional will have access to water test facilities and they can therefore analyze samples of the pool water on an annual basis to ensure that the water remains safe for swimming.

Regular maintenance of backyard swimming pools will not only prevent damage to the pool, but it will also keep the water free from microorganisms. In addition to chemical treatments, pool owners should periodically clean their swimming pools of dirt and debris. One great way to do this is by using robotic pool cleaners. These small little pool cleaners will not only scrub the bottom and sides of your pool, but they will also filter the dirt out of the water as well. Adequate pool maintenance will allow pool owners to relax and enjoy their pool in safety all summer long.

  1. After receiveing the $eighty five quote to restore my growing older Polaris cleaner I knew it was time for a new one. With all the incentives on the 380 or 3900 I was going to go along with the 380 which was truly cheaper (after incentives) than the 280 however I began asking round – mostly pool professionals – and all (eight for eight) recommeneded the 280 even when the worth were higher.
