Insurance Debris Removal

When accidents happen at a home, before any repairs can be made, the damaged property must be removed.  Coverage for debris removal is provided under a homeowners insurance policy but with a separate limit.  The amount needed to haul off the rubble is not included in the amount of the loss.

Debris removal for homes is set at 25% of the estimated amount of the loss.  So if there is damage to a home in the amount of $10,000, the debris removal limit would be $2,500.  This amount is more than adequate for most residential losses, but in some cases, this amount is not enough to cover the clean up.  This might happen if the value of the property is low and the location of the property makes it difficult for contractors to access.

In any case, if the 25% is not sufficient to cover the debris removal, the policy does offer an additional $10,000 provided through the homeowners insurance policy “Additional Coverages” section.  It is possible to increase this limit, for an additional premium, but unless a homeowner has  a good reason to think that would need it, it is usually not recommended.

One area of debris removal insurance has to do with fallen trees.  When a tree falls on a property and must be cut up and hauled off, the insurance company will only pay for the removal if the tree strikes and damages a structure covered under the insurance such as a fence, shed, or, heaven forbid, a house.  If there is no property damage that is covered under the insurance policy, then there is no coverage for the hauling of the tree.

Personal insurance polices such as the homeowners insurance policy are designed to offer most homeowners with all the coverage that they might need.  However, no two risks are exactly the same.  Homeowners should take some extra time to consider what is covered by their insurance policy if the standard coverage is adequate.  To learn more about homeowners insurance or any other insurance policy, visit The Coverage Geek, where insurance is spoken in plain English.

I do consider all of the ideas you’ve offered to your post. They are really convincing and can definitely work. Nonetheless, the posts are very short for beginners. Could you please lengthen them a bit from subsequent time? Thank you for the post.
