Often times, individuals who are trying to lose weight will immediately try to cut meat from their diet. This is not always the smartest idea. Also, many people absolutely love meat and refuse to not eat it no matter what. Losing weight does not mean you must cut meat from your diet. There are certain meats which will help you lose weight and others which should be avoided. However, adding protein from meat in your diet can help you feel fuller longer and actually decrease the amount of calories you ingest. With that being said there are a few guidelines you should follow when trying to lose weight and eat meat.

Some of the best meats to incorporate into your diet are of the leaner variety. Beef has long been the top-selling meat, but the fat content can vary widely depending on the cut. Always choose beef which is very lean to help reduce fat. Chicken is also another popular choice for dieters. Chicken is very lean and low in calories. Turkey can also be introduced into your diet as an alternative meet in several dishes. Turkey is not only great as a turkey breast but can also be used as ground meat as a substitute for beef. Also, many alternative meats such as bison and venison are extremely lean and great tasting.

It should go without saying there are some meats which you should avoid. Bacon can be one of the worst enemies of the dieter. It does taste great, but it is loaded with sodium and fat. If the thought of giving up your morning bacon gives you the shivers then perhaps you could try turkey bacon. It is much lower in fat and can be a great alternative. Also, fatty beef, such as rib-eyes, should be avoided.

Portion control is often a key to keeping meat in your diet. Try to limit your meat portion to about 4 ounces. This will give you the optimal amount of protein for the meal. Try to load up on other healthier items such as steamed vegetables and wheat breads to complete the meal.

Finally, preparing the meat will also determine how healthy it will be and aid you in your weight loss. When preparing meats try to use a small amount of seasonings for flavor instead of sauces. Sauces tend to add lots of extra calories and fat to the meat. Grilling or broiling are great ways to prepare meats and keep the fat content low.

  1. Nice article. Interesting topic and approach. I will be coming back some time in the near future.

  2. I couldn’t agree more that for many people cutting off meat completely is a bit too hard at first. But you really don’t need to do it because that’s not the case. You store fat by eating an unbalanced diet. Your ph level needs to be 7. And eating meat keeps it acidic. Throw in some vegetables.
