The 2010 World Cup that will be hosted in South Africa has been insured more than £6.2 billion, according to the biggest insurance market in the world, Lloyd’s.
The World Cup’s stadiums and venues for training are being covered for as much as £3.2 Billion. Added to other business opportunities linked with the World Cup that costs another £3 billion
“Competitions, offers, prizes, sponsorship, broadcast rights – it’s impossible to know how many there are, but all companies with these financial implications need coverage,” said Chris Nash of Sportscover.
“If the opening ceremony is delayed, that will affect the broadcasters, because they’ve got their advertising slots in place,” A Spokeswoman of Lloyd’s said.
“Similarly, if the final has to be delayed for whatever reason, people might want money back for their tickets.”
Another important factor in those estimates that are not included is the insurance policies of the players themselves that applies to their wellness incase of illness and injury.
