If you are going to go on a backcountry backpacking trip make sure to take the right tent for the job. 4 man dome tents will just be too heavy and you really don’t need that much space for just yourself. 2 man dome tents weight in at between 3 and 5 pounds. This is an easy to carry weight and it provides plenty of room for the solo backpacker.
The 2 man dome tent is really only designed to comfortably hold one person. Two people would be like sardines in a can and just as smelly. 25 square feet might sound like a lot, but it really is not when you factor in the limited headroom. 2 man tents are designed for sleeping. When you start crowding people in there, no one is going to get any sleep.
A 4 man tent has plenty of room for two people. It is also big and heavy and a pain to haul over rough train all day. That’s why you packed a 2 man backpacking tent. It is not perfect for two people. 2 Man Tents can only fit 1 person with any reasonable amount of comfort.
These days you don’t see many A-Frames on the trail. I haven’t see a teepee style tent in years. Tunnel and Hoop? Nope. These are all great tents and they all have their good points, but for a backpacking a 2 man dome tent is just the ideal. They are low to the ground. They pack in a lot of space in a relatively small area and they are a breeze to put up.

Setting up a last minute camping site can be hard, and the weather does not always cooperate, There is no running to the car when the car is three days away. Make sure your tent can take it.
You get what you pay for? There is a reason cheap tents are cheap. They are generally heavier and of inferior materials and construction. What you save in the store you will pay for on the trail. Buy a good tent from a reputable manufacturer the first time out. Don’t learn that lesson the hard way.
